YTT Potluck Dinner/Meeting 071209

Minutes for YTT Meeting July 12, 2009 at Subhash Mittal’s home

Susan Kilmon began the meeting with greetings to all attendees and the guest speaker, Holly Menard, a yoga therapist specializing in helping cancer patients. Susan requested that all attendees introduce themselves. We went around the room, with several students of Pashupati in the group.

Those in attendance were: Edee Seifert, Jessica Mollet, Holly Menard, Joy Ayscue, Sharri Gaines, Sandra Bullock, Sarah Bullock, Maria Pramaggiore, Sharon Norton, Susan Kilmon, Howie Shareff, Nan Maule, Subhash Mittal, Steve Ordog, Pashupati, Patience Armstrong and May Saleh.

  1. Howie began with a question about teaching Sunday morning at Shelley Lake with a certificate in chair yoga and an introductory video made with a RYT teacher in mat yoga as a background. The understanding from the group was that RYT is a registration with Yoga Alliance, not a certification. The web site states that all free class teachers are certified. The general vagueness afforded the support for Howie and other volunteers to continue filling the open spots in the schedule with safe and gentle practices.
  2. Joy offered to post on “Meet Up” free yoga. She will set up a group where YTT members can be “assistant organizers”. Also noted were Facebook, Myspace and Inside 919 as social media outlets for future utilization.
  3. The time of 7:30am was questioned as inconvenient. The heat, sun and odor were cited as the reasons to keep the time the same. Sharon will pursue publicity in the spring of 2010 for the program at the N & O and the Independent. Howie offered to research program listing under free stuff in the Independent.
  4. The annual dues were decided by the group to be terminally past due on July 31. The result will be the delisting of the individual or business from the web site. Email notice will be resent as a courtesy to all accessible tardy members. It was decided that next years dues will be past due as of March 31.
  5. YogaSpark: Jessica agreed to follow up with Lea to see how to organize the free yoga sessions for the community at the YogaSpark which is a part of the SparkCon event being held in September this year.
  6. Studio memberships will be allowed to carry up to five teachers within their listing umbrella. Above that there will be a $20 additional membership fee to list those teachers. The web site page will ed changed from “Locations” to “Member Studios”
  7. Budget report cites $850 in the bank, allowing the balance owed to Subhash for web site development to be resolved. He will maintain the site for a pre-discussed amount next year.
  8. The Affiliate Links page will be eliminated. The primary focus will be on local activities and possibly future social media efforts, i.e. a newsletter.
  9. Prison project under Pashupati is making inroads with Women’s Prison. There was encouragement for teachers to develop some relationship with Wake Correctional to bring an inmate to the community. Kim Thompson is the contact 678-8456.
  10. The meeting was followed by a vegetarian potluck dinner which was delicious!
  11. The meeting was adjourned.
